Kellogg Dental offers dental bonding as a simple, inexpensive way to repair any decayed, chipped, discolored, or fractured teeth. During dental bonding, a composite resin is shaped and polished to match your teeth’s natural color. The best part is that it can typically be done in just one visit! The entire bonding process usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour but, if you are having more than one tooth bonded, you may need to schedule multiple appointments.
Your dentist will first select the composite resin color that most closely matches the natural color of your teeth. Then, they will roughen the surface of your tooth and lightly coat it with a conditioning liquid to help the bonding material stick to the tooth. Once the resin has “bonded” to your tooth, your dentist will mold the material until it is the proper shape and then harden it with an ultraviolet light. After the bonding resin is hardened, your dentist will polish it to match the rest of your tooth’s natural shine.
The bonding resin can be stained by tea, coffee, wine, and other substances so it’s best to avoid consuming any food or drink that can stain during the first 48 hours after the procedure. While the composite resin used in dental bonding can last several years before needing any repair, it is not as strong as your natural teeth. If it does break or chip, call Kellogg Dental right away and we can get you an appointment with your dentist to patch or repair the chipped material.
